huOB Medium is a specially developed osteoblast growth medium for the in vitro culture of our immortalized osteoblasts CI-huOB (INS-CI-1005).
It is designed for use in an incubator at 37° C with a 5% CO2 atmosphere.
This Medium is used for expansion and maintenance of our CI-huOB osteoblasts. To induce osteoblast differentiation, please use our huOB Differentiation Medium (INS-ME-1007).
This Medium is provided as a kit consisting of Basal Medium and Supplement Mix in separate sterile packing, which need to be combined to obtain the complete, ready-to-use medium.
Osteoblasts are specialized cells primarily responsible for bone formation and bone mineralization. They produce and secrete the organic components of the bone matrix, including collagen, which provides the framework for deposition of calcium and other minerals, the so-called mineralization.
Store the products as follows if not indicated otherwise on the product label.
Basal Medium at 4 to 8°C
Supplement Mix at -18 to -20°C
Complete Medium at 4 to 8°C
Please see the product label for the expiry date of your product.
Prepare the complete Medium before use:
- Thaw Supplement Mix at ambient temperature.
- Add 30ml Supplement Mix to 500ml Basal Medium to obtain the complete Medium.
To prepare smaller volumes of complete Medium, aliquot Supplements and store at -20°C. For example, aliquot 5×6ml and then add 6ml Supplements to 100ml Basal Medium.

No, none of our standard media for our immortalized cells contains prophylactic antibiotics. You can supplement the medium with any standard cell culture antibiotic if you wish.
No, although we usually ship the Supplement Mix frozen and we recommend storage at -18 to -20°C , it may arrive thawed from transport. This does not affect the quality of the product. However, please avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Aliquot the Supplement Mix
Depending on the product, we may be able to offer custom formulations, for example excluding specific supplements from the medium. Please contact us and we will work with you to find the best solution.
